HAND GRIP STRENGTH IN PHYSIOTHERAPY STUDENTS: DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DOMINANT AND NON-DOMINANT HAND

Skeletni je mišić zadužen je za pokretanje i potporu, a jakost kontrakcije važan je element u procjeni njegove funkcije i zdravlja cijelog tijela Cilj ovog rada bio je istražiti koliko je sastav tjelesne mase povezan sa razlikama u jakosti stiska šake dominantne i nedominantne ruke. Istraživanje presječnog tipa napravljeno je na uzorku od 33 ispitanika oba spola u dobi 18-21 god. Metodom BIA određen je sastav tjelesne mase, a jakost stiska šake dominantne i nedominantne ruke mjeren je dinamometrijski uz bilježenje EMG signala uređajem BIOPAC StudentLab. Rezultati pokazuju da je jakost stiska šake povezana sa sastavom tjelesne mase, te se razlike u jakosti stiska između spolova gube nakon normaliziranja po tjelesnoj masi i masi mišića. Razlika u jakosti stiska dominantne i nedominantne ruke i nakon normalizacije po tjelesnoj masi i masi mišića ostaje statistički značajna, što govori o dodatnim razlikama između mišića dominantne i nedominantne ruke koje utječu na razliku u jakosti stiska.Skeletal muscle is responsible for movement and support, and the strength of contraction is an important element in assessing its function and health of the whole body. The cross-sectional study was performed on a sample of 33 subjects of both sexes aged 18-21 years. The composition of body mass was determined by the BIA method, and the grip strength of the hand of the dominant and non-dominant arm was measured dynamometrically with the recording of EMG signals by the BIOPAC StudentLab device. The results show that the grip strength of the hand is related to body composition, and the differences in grip strength between the sexes are lost after normalization by body weight and muscle mass. The difference in the grip strength of the dominant and non-dominant arm even after normalization by body weight and muscle mass remains statistically significant, suggesting additional differences between the dominant and non-dominant arm muscles that affect the difference in grip strength
