The findings of this report add to our understanding of this complex and important area and its recommendations can serve parents, teachers and policy makers, as well as the wider community. The authors' recommendations focus attention on how parents’ communication strategies and techniques vary with the age and sex of the child and how these strategies vary over time. The authors recommend that parents be more aware of the need for communication not only with their children but with each other, and how parents might be supported by voluntary and statutory sector in this regard.
