The objective of this thesis was to evaluate the completeness and accuracy of the National Drug Treatment Reporting System (NDTRS). The method used was a cross-sectional survey of clinical records matching NDTRS returns. A random sample of the records of 520 individuals receiving methadone treatment The study concludes that, although reports received by the NDTRS were generally accurate, its differential sensitivitiy across treatment centres and client type reduces its overall representativeness of the drug treatment service
