Demand reduction interventions.

This chapter describes a number of demand reduction programmes or interventions, which fall under the general headings - prevention, harm minimisation and treatment. The authors highlight the need to develop a culture of evaluation around the development of programmes aiming to reduce the demand for drugs, and the need for on-going training and support of such evaluation. The chapter also presents an overview of the training courses available in Ireland in the drugs area. A number of initiatives in disseminating information on drug misuse in Ireland are noted, including DrugNet Ireland - the newsletter of the Drug Misuse Research Division - the Exchange on Drug Demand Reduction Action - an EMCDDA sponsored database- and the National Documentation Centre on Drug Misuse
