Memory and endurance in the migration to the Amazon : The case of Nova Londrina in Ji-Parana, state of Rondonia, Brazil

The occupation of Rondônia, from the 1970s, occurred in a disorganized way, since it attracted an amount of migrants which was much bigger than the settling projects could sustain. The aim of this research was to analyze the circumstances in which the district of Nova Londrina was settled, utilizing for this reason a bibliographic survey, as well as the Oral History method. The arrival in Nova Londrina, Ji-Paraná, was highlighted by conflicts between the settlers and the settling company Calama S/A. In spite of the company's violence, the colonists resisted until there was an intervention from INCRA, through a land regularization program. In this context, the Urban Center for Rural Support (NUAR) was implanted, intending to support the agricultural workersA ocupação de Rondônia, a partir da década de 1970, ocorreu de forma desordenada, pois atraiu uma quantidade de camponeses maior do que os projetos de colonização tinham condições de comportar. O objetivo dessa pesquisa foi analisar as condições sob as quais o distrito de Nova Londrina foi colonizado, utilizando-se para tanto de levantamento bibliográfico e da metodologia da História Oral. A chegada a Nova Londrina, Ji-Paraná, foi marcada por conflitos entre camponeses, posseiros e a empresa colonizadora Calama S/A. Apesar da violência da empresa, os camponeses resistiram até que houvesse a intervenção do INCRA, por meio de um programa de regularização fundiária. Neste contexto foi implantado o Núcleo Urbano de Apoio Rural (NUAR) com o objetivo de dar suporte aos camponeses
