Notes on Mayetia pearsei Schuster, Marsh and Park, with a revised key to Eastern Mayetia species (Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae)

The seasonal occurrence of adult Mayetia pearsei Schuster, Marsh and Park was documented in a beech-maple forest in southern Arkansas by monthly sampling of sedge rootballs. The species occurred in samples taken from October through May. and a maximum abundance of 6.5 specimens/kg of sample occurred in December, 1994. Specimens were absent in samples taken from June through September. All 145 specimen collected at the study site were females, suggesting parthenogenesis. Additional locality records from Louisiana, Mississippi and South Carolina are given for M. pearsei. Finally, a revised key to the six species of Mayetia in the eastern U.S. is provided that will permit identification of females
