Description logics (DLs) are a family of knowledge representation formalisms that provide the logical foundation of the OWL 2 DL ontology language. Efficient ontology classifi- cation lies at the core of many practical applications of DLs, so considerable effort has been devoted to the development and optimisation of practical reasoning calculi. Consequencebased calculi combine ideas from hypertableau and resolution in a way that has proved very effective in practice; for example, the CB reasoner used such a calculus to classify the GALEN ontology and thus solved a long-standing open DL reasoning problem.
