M. Antonius Aristocrates, mentioned by Plutarch as an intimate of the triumvir Mark Antony, has hitherto remained an obscure figure. An unpublished inscription from Corinth (I-1973-4) offers important new information about Aristocrates and the name of a previously unknown tribe of Roman Corinth; additional inscriptions and numismatic evidence that were not previously associated with Aristocrates further complete the picture. The authors provide the editio princeps of the inscription from Corinth, as well as new editions of the other inscriptions, and reassess all relevant evidence in order to elucidate more fully the man, his career, and the position of similarly placed provincial elites in Early Roman Greece. © The American School of Class...
