The study, based, apart from the existing literature, on documents from the Historical Archives of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church in Rome and the Ukrainian Museum and Library of Stamford, attributes the emergence and the development of the Patriarchal movement to the growing concern for unity among the post-war Ukrainian diaspora; the emigrants’ desire to preserve their national and cultural identity; the wider engagement of the secular intelligentsia in Church affairs; and the conflicting life attitudes of the third-wave emigrants and those from the two previous waves.
