Since the 1960s, the gold standard for business research has been the peer-reviewed journal article, and the measure of worth has been the quality of the journal and the number of citations received. However, recent critiques have raised concerns that these measures have resulted in management scholarship becoming too narrowly focused and neglecting important issues (Haley, Page, Pitsis, Rivas, & Yu, 2017; Tourish, 2020). In this plenary session, we will discuss how to develop a research agenda that embraces the full range of scholarship opportunities, engages a diverse community of stakeholders, and makes a positive impact on society.
