At its core public health law is about both law and science. In the 20th century, law and policy were central tools in achievements in vaccination, reduction of tobacco use, and healthier mothers and babies—just to name a few. As we move further into the 21st century, more attention is being paid to studying the impact of laws and policies on health. In this presentation, Montrece Ransom, JD, MPH, president-elect of the American Society for Law, Medicine, and Ethics, will discuss the emerging field of legal epidemiology including how it can be used as a tool to address health equity, and the role of researchers in this transdisciplinary work.
