Lung cancer is among the most frequently diagnosed cancers and is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. One of the hallmark events in lung cancer pathogenesis is deregulation of the cell cycle. The retinoblastoma protein (pRb) is a tumor suppressor that is deleted, mutated, or inactivated in most lung cancer cases. Canonically, pRb functions to regulate cell cycle progression by repressing the transcriptional activity of the E2F family of transcription factors, inhibiting S phase entry.
