By the early twentieth century the American newspaper was a primary means of disseminating information to the people. In Omaha, a significant portion of the population learned of events - local, national, international – from one major newspapers in the city, The Omaha World-Herald. Because of the potential impact of The Omaha World-Herald on its readers, scholars have conducted several studies of the editorial opinion of the paper regarding its position on various subjects. If newspapers do influence readers by the type of stories covered, the method of presenting those stories and editorial opinion, it is indeed important to understand the position of particular newspaper in relation to a given event.
