Letter from John Muir to Helen [Muir], 1906 Jun 10.

May\u27s, June 10, 06-Darling Helen.It\u27s delightful to get your cheery reassuring letters looking forward to home coming sounds well. I was in your room this afternoon & the sunlight which somehow always seems richest & best in that room was softly glowing on the pa[illegible]tings fairly glorifying them especially the Shasta & Eucalyptus flower & I thought of the happy days you are to spend there. Oh my darling Heaven realize these fond fond hopes. Wanda letter shows she is to be here tomorrow. I trust after the trouble is over & done that Tom will buckle down to getting chimneys etc all in order for your home coming. He & Wanda ought to be able to finish the job in a week or two. Ive been working hard in the Sig & Less Library & will e able to tell you lots about these enchanted forests wh you & I must study all summer.Yesterday I went to Stanford & saw the ruins drove round in a carriage in style, Charlie Keeler & I, called at Dr. Jordans but he was away. Found Prof Rolf with whom we dined. He has a charming family & is a fine fellow. Then Prof Anderson & Mrs Anderson drove up from Menlo Park & we had a good visit with them also. At 1/2 past 4 o\u27clock we took the train for the city. Charlie caught the 6 o\u27clock ferry boat & would get home by 7. Having 2 hrs on my hands I got on a street car & went up Market to Valencia & had a good general view of the desolate city It is wonderful how rapidly new temporary buildings are going up, many are already finished & look as if meant to be permanent. I got to May\u27s at ten & found nobody at home. so had to go over to the old home where John Reid found a bed for me, or rather made one up in a room at head of the stairs The first time Ive slept in the house for nearly a year. May & Arthur & Mirram got home at 3 or 4 P.M.As soon as you get this write me what you most want, especially in eatables & Ill bring a trunkful Ive often thought I should have sent some by express ere this, anyhow you & I must have a good sig time together before we leave the grand old coal bunkers & Sniff pony & the wandering wayfaring tramp crows I had long letter from Simpson the Santa Fe advertising agent thanking me for the map of all the forests & the information I sent him etc. Also had letter from the New York Tribune editor requesting information about the Blue Forest I had lately discovered. so that name is pretty sure to hold fast. Don\u27t get lonesome Dear- Ill jump for the train immediately after the end- (or beginning of the half 1/2 merry Tommy trouble- Ever yours Darling with endless love. J
