The economic crisis in Zimbabwe has resulted in poor working conditions, low remuneration and lack of resources. This situation has led to low morale of qualified teachers. The supervision of student teachers therefore, represents extra work for the teachers, who are already over-burdened by large classes and the demands associated with the introduction of new subjects from time to time. Some mentors feel that they need to be given incentives for their role in the training of teachers. Furthermore, research suggests that some student teachers are struggling with their teaching practice which is an important aspect of their teacher education.
