In July 2012, the DG Research and Innovation of the European Commission commissioned the Center for Philanthropic Studies at VU University Amsterdam, to coordinate a study on the contributions of foundations to research and innovation in the EU 27, plus Norway and Switzerland. The European Foundations for Research and Innovation (EUFORI) Study quantifies and assesses the financial support by foundations and their policies for research and innovation in the European Union, makes a comparative analysis between the EU Member States, and identifies trends and the potential for future developments in this sector.
