MOVE ANALYSIS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING RESEARCH ARTICLE ABSTRACTS IN NATIONAL JOURNAL ARTICLES

As a part of a research article (RA), an abstract is presented to describe the entire RA because it can determine whether the readers will keep reading the RA or not. The structure of an abstract determines its value in outlining the whole RA. This study investigates the rhetorical moves and linguistic features of English Language Teaching RA abstracts. The objective of this study is to reveal whether Sinta levels impact the rhetorical moves and linguistic features of RA abstracts. The study analyzed 120 abstracts of ELT RAs abstracts taken from 6 Sinta levels that consisted of 12 journals (10 abstracts per each) by using Antmover. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied in exploring and comparing the data, specifically adopting the theory of Hyland (2000). The result revealed similarities and differences in the realization of rhetorical moves and linguistic features from ELT RA abstracts across Sinta levels. In conclusion, Sinta level do not fully impact the realization of rhetorical moves and linguistic features. The study can be a guideline for researchers of ELT in improving writing skills regarding the recent trends of rhetorical moves and linguistic features
