Tourism affects regions both positively and negatively. It is important to find the right balance between tourism development and resource conservation. Through evidence from the ESPON project on cultural heritage that has been performed by the University of Venice, the delicate balance between development and conservation is illustrated and the consequences for a sustainable tourism development strategy discussed.status: publishe
