International supply chains in the textile industry: the purchasing perspective

The supply chain in the textile industry has greatly changed over the past years due to increased national and international competition, changes in sourcing models, consumption habits and the appearance of major European clothing brands. These changes have had an impact on production locations, production methods, export flows and the retail market. This article examines the upstream supply chain in the textile industry to determine to what extent the considerations of logistics and supply chain competencies may affect the company’s international strategies. Based on the literature on international supply chain monitoring, we studied two cases of textile companies from the purchasing standpoint, one specialized in lingerie and the other one in “high range” products. The results show that logistics organizations are not rigid and that the transfer of competencies is possible and have an immediate impact on supply chain monitoring.status: publishe
