1. 1. Time and temperature relationships in hepatic amino acid catabolism were studied in golden-mantled ground squirrels arousing from hibernation. 2. 2. A marked translational increase in amino acid catabolism occurred in the middle and latter stages of arousal. 3. 3. The data suggest amino acids are important sources of four carbon dicarboxylic acid intermediates for continued oxidation of fatty acids, maintenance of blood glucose and replenishment of tissue glycogen stores during the latter stages of arousal. © 1974
