Typescript (photocopy).This research deals with physically-based modeling of power system loads. Residential air conditioner system has been chosen to demonstrate the modeling technique. The dynamic behaviour of the air conditioning system is modeled from fundamental physical principles of heat transfer. With certain assumptions the model is simplified and expressions for rate of switching on and off of the air conditioner are obtained. The parameters of the model are estimated using system identification technique. A scheme for Maximum Likelihood identification of linear dynamic systems is developed.
