A comparison of the effectiveness of television, radio, and the newspaper in creating public awareness toward educational television programming

In July of 1969, the Educational Television Program at Texas A&M University was awarded a grant by the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, for the establishment of an educational television station, located on the campus and serving the Bryan-College Station community. A target date of December 15, 1969, was established as the anticipated air date for the station. A primary concern was the creation of public awareness toward this new station and its programming. To achieve this awareness, the media forms of television, radio, and the newspaper were used to present information about the station to the community residents. To measure the degree to which the area inhabitants were aware of the new station, a series of 250 telephone interviews, 125 mailed questionnaires, and 25 personal interviews was administered to a randomly drawn sample of community residents.
