A nonantigenic blood substitute with a intravenous retention time of at least 14 days can be produced by polymerization of bovine hemoglobin isolated by CDU. 3. The P50 of polymerized bovine hemoglobin can be returned to levels equivalent to that of bovine whole blood by binding IHP to the polyhemoglobin. 4. IHP modified polymerized bovine hemoglobin is not a suitable blood substitute material
