Typescript (photocopy).Two-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy is a technique whereby fluorescence spectra are recorded in matrix format as a function of excitation and emission wavelengths. This data format is very useful for the examination of mixtures of fluorophores, especially when advanced methods of data reduction are applied to the interpretation of the emission excitation matrices (EEMs). Although conventional fluorescence instrumentation can be used to acquire EEM formatted spectra, the use of novel instruments incorporating various types of image detectors can result in a significant reduction in the time required to record an EEM.
