Case StudyThis Morton effect case is unique since the mitigation method during the high speed balance (increasing the bearing clearance) is opposite to the mechanical test method (decreasing the bearing clearance). The investigation revealed that the complication occurred because the relatively low pedestal stiffness during the high speed balance changed the rotor-dynamics. The original bearing design is shown to be adequate for application in the actual machine
