BACKGROUND: Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a heterogeneous biopsychosocial disorder. The Rome III consensus proposed a subdivision into epigastric pain syndrome and postprandial distress syndrome, based on gastroduodenal symptom pattern only; nausea/vomiting- and belching disorders were classified as separate functional gastroduodenal disorders (FGD).
