FRANCISCO DE FIGUEROA, EL DIVINO: ESTUDIO BIOGRAFICO Y EDICION DE SUS POEMAS. (SPANISH TEXT)

This thesis (written in Spanish) studies the Castilian poet Francisco de Figueroa (died 1588 or 1589). The first part includes new biographical information: there are chapters about Figueroa\u27s early days in Alcala de Henares and Italy; his trip to France in 1559 or 1560 as the secretary of the Spanish Embassador Tomas Perrenot de Granvela; his career as a contino at the court of Felipe II; and his sojourn in the Low Countries (1578-1579) in the service of Don Carlos de Aragon. There is also a chapter examining the literary climate in which Figueroa spent the final years of his life. Biographical research was carried out at the Archivo General de Simancas and the Biblioteca Nacional de Madrid. The second part of the thesis is an edition of Figueroa\u27s works, intended to improve upon that of Angel Gonzalez Palencia by eliminating apocryphal poems. The author has culled variant readings from manuscripts at the Biblioteca Nacional and the Biblioteca de Palacio, Madrid
