As in many cultures, elders hope to age at home in Saudi Arabia, where proximity to family and social interaction among relatives is highly prized. However, not all available housing provides optimal conditions for successful aging. This study explores whether biophilic design—buildings and spaces that allow for a human connection with nature, and which are widely credited with promoting positive physical and mental wellbeing—may contribute to creating empathetic, healthy, supportive, and culturally-agreeable home environments for elders in Saudi Arabia.
