In order to address rising textbook prices , libraries have started to create textbook affordability initiatives that include encouraging faculty to use open educational resources as well as developing stipend programs for faculty. The University Library Advisory Council recently created a committee to support and expand textbook affordability initiatives across the UNC System. This initiative included joining the Open Textbook Network , providing small stipends for faculty to review open textbooks , collaborating with NC LIVE's Open Education North Carolina , and facilitating librarian and faculty training on open textbooks.
