In 1965 the Committee of the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics (CUPM) presented to the Mathematical Association of America its report: A General Curriculum in Mathematics for Colleges. In an article concerning this report, W. L. Duren, Jr., the chairman of CUPM, discussed the question of including a computer course in the general mathematics curriculum.
