Extra-curricular activities have a place in the socialization process of today's youth. During adolescence, there is concern with acceptance by one's peer group. Extra-curricular activities, such as club membership, contribute to this socialization process in an informal group setting. Three organizations proposing to offer these experiences to youth are: the Future Farmers of America, Future Homemakers of America, and 4-H Clubs. Research concerning these three organizations has been very limited. Studies of 4-H center around re-enrollment and characteristics of members. Materials concerning these organizations have been theoretical and popular in nature, but very little empirical literature exists
