Development of a test to measure the ability of home economics teachers to apply certain accepted educational concepts

A beginning teacher is confronted daily with new and challenging classroom situations. Both consciously and unconsciously she develops an individual pattern of behavior in dealing with these situations. She has been exposed to a large volume of educational theory and has had limited opportunities to apply this theory in classroom situations. The question may be raised of her awareness of the relationship between this educational theory and the classroom situations which now confront her. Before the pattern of behavior becomes too rigid, could she be guided to increase her ability to apply important educational concepts? The researcher believed that an evaluation device which would help the beginning teacher to see her progress in developing the ability to apply educational concepts in classroom situations would be helpful to her professional growth.
