Recent dietary surveys of nine to eleven year old North Carolina school children by the Nutrition Division of the State Board of Health show that a large percentage of them have poor diets. The present study was undertaken because this county had not been included in these surveys and because the writer became interested in the children during observation in the school lunchroom. Seventy-two boys and girls in the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades of Curry School in Greensboro, North Carolina were studied. The ages of the children ranged from eight to fourteen years, but most of them were between nine and twelve.
