The study of structure-borne vibrations caused by railway traffic is becoming increasingly relevant along with the expansions of cities, as building projects are forced towards more sensitive areas, e.g closer to railway tracks. With high enough vibration levels, there is a risk for human annoyance inside buildings. Knowledge of the attenuation of vibrations in the ground caused by railway traffic is in such cases of great importance. Where a railway switch is present, higher levels are likely to be generated as the train passes.
