Evaluation of Quality of Life after Radical Gastric Cancer Operations

The goal of study: to evaluate the quality of life after radical surgical treatment of gastric cancer Research objectives: 1. Compare the quality of life in patients after radical surgical treatment of gastric cancer when total or subtotal gastrectomy is performed. 2. Compare the quality of life after surgical treatment of gastric cancer when adjuvant chemotherapy is used or not used. 3. Search for differences between quality of life scales in patients after radical surgery of gastric cancer depending on age, sex and stage of the disease. Object of research: 42 patients after radical operations of gastric cancer. Results: 1. Patients after subtotal gastrectomy have better quality of life than patients after total gastrectomy, but the results are statistically insignificant. 2. Patients who had adjuvant chemotherapy treatment have better quality of life than patients who hadn‘t, but the results are statistically insignificant. 3. The differences of quality of life in radically operated patients of different stage of cancer were statistically insignificant. Younger patients have better quality of life, but the differences are statistically insignificant. Females reported better quality of life in symptom (p=0.030) and function (p=0.036) scales compared with males. The results were statistically significant. Conclusions: The differences of quality of life based on stage of stomach cancer, adjuvant chemoterapy, type of operation, age of patients were statistically insignificant. Females had statistically significant better quality of life based on the results of function scales (p=0.036) and symptom scales (p=0.030)
