Assessment of the attitude of medical staff towards the implementation of the principles of good governance and managerial competencies relevant to the manager

Aim of the thesis – to evaluate the attitude of medical staff to the implementation of the principles of good governance and managerial competencies relevant to the manager. Objectives of the thesis: 1.To determine the attitude of medical staff to the implementation of the principles of good governance. 2.To determine the attitude of medical staff to managerial competencies relevant to the manager. Methodology. The quantitative type of research is applied in the scientific work, using the methods of analysis of the scientific literature, meta-analysis, questionnaire (questionnaire survey). The research of the Master’s thesis was carried out in December 2019 – January 2020. The questionnaire survey method was used. The research was carried out in X hospital, after receiving the permit No. BEC – VSV(M) – 38 from the head of the institution and the LSMU Bioethics Center. A one-time anonymous research was performed which involved health care specialists (medical staff) of X hospital who were present at the workplace during the research and agreed to participate in the research (N = 150). 177 questionnaires were distributed to the respondents, of which 16 questionnaires did not return and 11 questionnaires were filled in incorrectly. There were 150 questionnaires correctly completed and suitable for the analysis of the results. The response rate was 84.7 per cent. Microsoft Office 365 Excel program and IBM SPSS 22.0 software were used for analysis of the research data and calculation of statistical data. Results. For medical staff attitudes to the implementation of the principles of good governance, the highest overall percentage is for efficiency and effectiveness (83.6 %) and the lowest overall percentage is for accountability (73.8 %). The assessment of the implementation of the principles of good governance was not significantly influenced by the age, work experience and working time of the respondents in X hospital. However, in assessing the implementation of the principles of good governance, depending on the work department in the hospital, a statistically significant difference was found in the assessment of the implementation of the principles of “participation” and “impartiality/fairness”. All managerial competencies (planning, organization, leadership and control) were assessed by the medical staff as significant. The overall percentage estimate ranges from 83.6 to 87.2 per cent. The assessment of the significance of managerial competencies did not depend on the age, work experience and working hours of the respondents in this institution. However, when assessing the significance of managerial competencies, depending on the work department in the hospital, a statistically significant difference was found in the assessment of “planning”. Conclusions. 1. It was found that the highest overall percentage of the attitudes of the medical staff involved in the research to the implementation of the principles of good governance is for efficiency and effectiveness, and the lowest overall percentage is for accountability. Accountability is rated well, and participation, transparency, impartiality/fairness, efficiency and effectiveness, and responsiveness to patient needs are rated very well. 2. It was found that the medical staff participating in the research rated all managerial competencies (planning, organization, leadership and control) as significant for the manager.
