Acute Psychosis Relation with Outpatients Mental Health Care and Medication Adherence in Patients with Schizophrenia.

Aim of the research: to determine acute psychosis relation with outpatients mental health care and medication adherence in patients with schizophrenia. Tasks of the research: 1. To determine and evaluate sociodemographic characteristics of research participants. 2. To determine and evaluate acute psychosis relation with outpatients mental health care. 3. To determine and evaluate acute psychosis relation with medication adherence. Object of the research: LUHS Kaunas Clinics Psychiatry Clinic inpatients with schizophrenia who were emergently hospitalized, because of acute psychosis. Methods and methodic of the research: Anonymous questionnaire was used for the research, which is consisted of three parts: the first part evaluates sociodemographic features; the second part helps to find out using of primary mental health care services; in the third part MARS questionnaire is being used to evaluate medication adherence. Results: The research showed that women and men visit psychiatrist equally often, however men more than women visit psychologist. People, who do not have a partner, more often use psychiatrist consultation than those, who are living with partner. People without the partner are tended to use social worker services more often. People who are living with partner and those who are not are consulting psychologist equally often. Patients with schizophrenia independently from received mental health care or medication adherence equally often have acute psychosis. Conclusions: Five of six patients with schizophrenia were using psychiatrist services, every third was using psychologist services and only every tenth patient was using social worker services in primary mental health center. However, significant relation between using primary mental health care services and acute psychosis for patients with schizophrenia was not determined. It was determined that four of five patients with schizophrenia, who were hospitalized with acute psychosis were not adhering medication. No significant relation between medication adherence and sociodemographic characteristics, use of primary mental health center services was determined
