Introduction: Metabolic syndrome (MS) and its components can increase central arterial stiffness and the risk of cardiovascular disease. Objective: Investigate whether in elderly patients, with vascular stiffness already detected, the components of MS, associated or not with age, remain determinant in the central arterial stiffness of patients with this syndrome. Methodology: A retrospective study that selected 185 elderly (male = 66, female = 119) that compose the database EVOPIU - Pulse Wave Speed Study in the Elderly in an Urban Area in Brazil - followed from 2014 to 2018, and diagnosed with SM.
