Enzyme application in the textile industry

The enzymes are generally characterized as proteins, which have the function of catalyzing reactions. For this reason, they are very effective because they have a high specificity on the substrate, acting to decompose or compose only certain substances under determined conditions of temperature, pH and substrate concentration. Enzymes can be applied in several areas such as in the detergent production, food industry, pharmaceutical industry, alcohol production and others. They can also be used in the textile process, as an alternative to change the properties of textile fibers in the process steps like phase of desizing, scoring, purg, bleaching, dyeing and others. They are being more used day after day, because it's show many advantages as a contribution to the ecological improvement of the process, since it replaces the chemicals products normally used, therefore, acts in the reduction of environmental impacts and in decrease the damages caused in the fibers. In this context, this final paper carries out a bibliographic review study on the performance of enzymes like amylase, pectinase, cellulase and catalase used in the different stages of the textile process.Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação)As enzimas são caracterizadas de forma geral como proteínas, que tem por função catalisar reações. Por esse motivo, são muito eficazes já que possuem uma alta especificidade sobre o substrato, agindo para decompor ou compor apenas certas substâncias em determinadas condições de temperatura, pH e concentração de substrato. As enzimas podem ser aplicadas em várias áreas como na produção de detergentes, indústria de alimentos, indústria farmacêutica, na produção de álcool e entre outros. Elas podem ser utilizadas também no processo têxtil, como uma alternativa para alterar as propriedades das fibras têxteis nas etapas do processo como a desengomagem, purga, alvejamento, tingimento e outros. Estão sendo cada vez mais utilizadas, pois apresenta inúmeras vantagens como a contribuição para o melhoramento ecológico do processo, já que substitui os produtos químicos normalmente utilizados, logo, atua na redução do impacto ambiental assim como na diminuição dos danos às fibras. Neste contexto, este trabalho realiza um estudo de revisão bibliográfica sobre a atuação das enzimas amilase, pectinase, celulase e catalase empregadas nas diferentes etapas do processo têxtil
