This paper presents a mathematical model of sediment transport which takes density currents of sediment laden water into account. The model is kept as simple as possible within the limits allowed by the above purpose. It is a bi-dimensional (X-Y) model with two layers where sediment transport is active. The few results given here show that, in spite of the simplifications, this model reproduces, at least in a qualitative way, the essential instability conditions (avalanches) when bottom slopes are but a little less than the equilibrium slopes.
