Temperature is a major parameter governing changes in water quality and the development of plankton growth in aquatic environments. The text shows the need to simulate biological and biochemical processes throughout a complete annual cycle in order to assess the impact of disturbances in the aquatic environment caused by various developments (hydraulic improvement works, for instance) or by the disposal of thermal or organic effluents. The simulation methods chosen are simple, and emphasis is placed on the importance of calibrating the models using data collected on site.
