The main features of the project are reviewed, which include 1. two hydroelectric power plants (one Rumanian and the other Yugoslav) each with an installed output of 1 050 MW and being designed to produce 5.5 TWh in an average year, 2. a barrage rising to a height of 34 m and storing 2 700 millions cubic metres, which also regulates the daily river discharge. A schematic description is given of the running of the power plants, also considering navigational requirements and limitation of the storage level at certain critical points.
