The Danube cataracts area, above kilometre point D 940, is being jointly developed by riparian countries, Rumania and Jugoslavia, who are building the “ Iron Gate ” power plant designed for a total output of some 2,100,000 kW. Two new aspects of the flood problem arise : 1) protection of the work site and river shipping during construction and 2) flood discharge through the dam.
