The results of flow and volume measurements in oil and petrol products with some forty turbine-type flow-meters are reviewed. All the flow-meters were found to behave in exactly the same way. Calibration by the standard calibration tube method gives better results than by comparison with a standard gauge. The tube shows up the excellent accuracy of the turbine-type flow-meters. This feature and hard-wearing properties are these instruments’ most attractive characteristics. Accuracy for a given rate of flow and viscosity is about 10-4. The turbines are sensitive to viscosity and rate of flow, but accuracies of about 10-3 are acceptable under industrial conditions.
