Comprehensive experimental work was done a few years ago on the potential application of hydrostatic bearing techniques to liquid metal pumps, which produced different configurations to those normally associated with fluid bearings. The soundness of the solutions obtained was confirmed by several machines having run for over 10,000 hours. The same principles were applied to blowers with an output of several hundred kilowatts, and interesting experimental results were obtained. A specially designed experimental machine for the testing of hydrostatic gas bearings, with features very similar to those of standard compressors, provided interesting comparison points for several different hydrostatic gas bearing designs.Une expérimentation pouss...
