Tests and research on pumping turbine units for hydro-electric accumulation plants. The Author gives an account of the scale model tests and research carried out during recent years at the research laboratory of the Institute of Machines of the University of Padua, under the aegis of the Italian National Research Council. The aim of these tests was to develop fixed and adjustable bladings and high efficiency wheel outlines for pumping turbines, i.e. machines capable of running as pumps, or, at reversed flow conditions, as centripetal turbines in hydro-electric accumulation plants.
