Infections with F4(+) enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) causes severe diarrhoea in piglets, resulting in morbidity and mortality. F4 fimbriae are the key virulence factors mediating the attachment of F4(+) ETEC to the intestinal epithelium.
