Background: Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is the most common cause of chronic liver disease. The current global prevalence of NAFLD is 25%, while 26% of adults in the United States (US) are estimated to have NAFLD. At Present, NAFLD related fibrosis is projected to be the leading cause of liver transplantation in the coming years. NAFLD patients have a 1.7-fold increased risk of mortality, yet there are no pharmacologic or other modalities of treatment for this disease.
