Analiza gospodarenja kemikalijama u ljekarnama u Hrvatskoj

The research deals with safe handling of potentially dangerous/toxic chemicals, used in health institutions/pharmacies, and which, by their characteristic features, pertain typically to those described in article 2, item 9 of the Law of chemicals. The paper describes absorption of chemicals, measures taken in the prevention of absorption, the concepts discussed in legal regulations, basic characteristics of the chosen chemicals. Based on a survey carried out at ten pharmacies, the results have depicted the most frequent chemicals used in pharmacies, concluding that pharmacies handle potentially dangerous/ toxic chemicals. The research has revealed that training in handling dangerous chemicals is not satisfactory. Some 2200 graduate pharmacists are employed in pharmacies in the Republic of Croatia, however, only 1.4% have undergone adequate training for safe work with chemicals. Such a small percentage of trained pharmacists is insufficient, for such handling of chemicals implies that the people, the environment, the material and cultural goods are at risk
