Chinese cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia Btume, Lauraceae) is evergreen tree originating from China. The aim of presented research was to evaluate hypoglycemic and antioxidant properties of Chinese cinnamon bark extract. Antioxidant activity in vitro was investigated by four methods: antiradical and chelating activity, reducing power and activity in /3-carotene-linoleate assay. Diabetes in rats was induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin. Glucose bloocl level, as well as some parameters of oxidative stress in erythrocite and plasma (superoxide radical, lipid peroxidation, carbonylatecl proteins) were determined.
